NEW CONCUSSION TRAINING FOR COACHES AND PARENTS

In support of our ongoing commitment to “put our children’s safety and well-being first”, the IBFA will continue to intensify our focus, knowledge and practice of reducing the potential for player injury or harm.  This commitment begins with effective and continuous training, development and applied learning.

Mandatory Concussion Training

Along with incorporating modified drills and training techniques that allow us to decrease the risk for player concussions and recurring injuries, the IBFA requires that “all coaches” complete mandatory concussion training on an annual basis.   All Head Coaches will receive their required annual concussion training through the USA Football Certification Program.

All Assistant Coaches are required to complete the on-line CDC Heads Up Concussion Training on an annual basis. The following instructions are provided to assist with accessing the CDC website and the required training materials:

  • Follow the following link to the Coach section of the CDC Heads Up Training. Here you will find a link to the course, as well as, additional valuable tools:  http://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/coach.htm.

  • Under the Free Concussion Training Course click the Heads Up square/icon to take you to the course. The training course will take you 20-30 minutes to complete.

  • Once you have completed the course please save an electronic or hard copy of your certificate. You will be required to provide it to your League Director prior to the scheduled due date as proof of completion.

  • Certifications are valid one full year and coaches only need to take the training once a year.

We also highly encourage all parents to educate themselves on concussions through the CDC's Heads Up website, to ensure we are all reading from the same sheet of instructions and guidance.
